Saloon Tequila and Margarita
Menu
For hundreds of years now, tequila has been Mexico’s national
spirit, the source of which is the Weber Blue agave
plant. The Blue agave looks like a giant aloe that grows about six feet
high. Although it looks like a cactus, it is a member
of the lily family. The heart of the Blue agave is the “pina”
which is part of the plant used to make tequila. Tequilas
are mostly from the region of Jalisco and take its name from the town
of Tequila.
There are three different classifications of tequila, which are based
on the aging techniques:
Blanco–Also known as silver, it is clear
tequila, which is not aged. Its fresh and fruity flavor is the most
direct
expression of the agave pina.
Reposado–Reposado or “rested”
tequilas are aged in wood barrels for at least two months. They are
often pale
straw in color and are mellower than Blancos and Jovens.
Añejo–Añejo tequilas must
be aged in oak barrels for twelve months or more. They are gold to amber
in color and
have a soft, smooth, complex flavor brought on by its marriage with
the aromatic wood. These are great sipping tequilas.
